Purpose of Establishment
To secure creative knowledge and fundamental technology through world-class basic science research
Vision and Objectives
a. Vision : To contribute to the happiness of mankind and the development of society through basic science research
b. 3 Steps to achieve goals : To rank in the world’s top 10 basic science research institutes for research impact by 2030
- 2013~2017: To become Korea's national hub for basic science research
- 2018~2022: To position the institution as a world-class research institution
- 2023~2030: To lead the global paradigm shift in basic science
Functions of Research Institute
a. Organization plan
- The institute plans to expand its size and role by selecting and establishing 50 research centers by 2017.
- The institute plans to be composed of research areas of global excellence and also reflect national demands by applying differentiated strategies for each growth stage.
b. Major functions (of the institute)
- World-class basic science research and other fundamental research based on basic science will be conducted at the institute, focusing on large-scale and long-term group (cohort) research, presently not available at universities or government-supported institutes.
- Fostering next-generation basic science leaders
- Global basic science networking as a core research institute of the (international) science (business) belt
